Fried Mashed Potatoes filled with Gruyere

Fried Mashed Potatoes filled with Gruyere is one of my all-time favorite foods, After doing some research I found this recipe and I have made it in the past and it is absolutely delicious!







What You'll Need



  • Four cups mashed potatoes ( I steam them)
  • Two tablespoons sour cream
  • Two tablespoons butter
  • One tsp salt
  • One half tsp garlic powder
  • One half tsp onion powder
  • Pepper to taste
  • Three eggs + Two yolks
  • Three tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • One half cups seasoned breadcrumbs
  • Five oz sharp aged cheddar or gruyere cut into 12 pieces
  • Three to Four cups neutral oil (grapeseed, safflower, peanut)
  • One cup marinara sauce (choose your favorite brand or make it)

How to Make It

  1. Mix potatoes with sour cream, butter, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, pepper, 2 egg yolks and flour.
  2. At this point refrigerate for 1 hour to harden the mixture.
  3. Roll potato mixture into round 12 oblong cylinders and place a ½oz piece of cheese in the center by molding the potato around it.
  4. Refrigerate again for 15 min.
  5. Lightly beat remaining eggs in a bowl and place breadcrumbs in a second bowl.
  6. Dip each cylinder in eggs and then breadcrumbs.
  7. Pour oil into a deep heavy pot.
  8. Heat to 365 degrees; monitor with a thermometer or check by using the handle end of a wooden spoon.
  9. It will bubble around the handle when it hits about 350 degrees.
  10. Carefully place 2 potato croquettes at a time into oil and fry until deeply golden.
  11. Be careful not to crowd foods when frying.
  12. Immediately remove drain on a paper towel and season with salt.
  13. Can be kept warm in a 325 degree oven until all croquettes are ready.
  14. Serve hot with marinara sauce.
  15. NOTES:

  16. They can be served alongside many meat dishes or alone as an appetizer.
  17. Serve with a variety of sauces from marinara to garlic chipotle aioli.
